The most photogenic country in the world. Religion, culture, dress, food, lifelong attitudes and philosophies all intertwine. India is chaotic, cacophonous, polluted, way over populated, filthy yet spotless, bureaucratic, annoying, hellishly hot, with millions of deformed beggars everywhere. India has the largest slums in the world that situate next to 5 star hotels and marvelous buildings and architecture. India has the richest people in the world yet alittle less than 1/3 of its billion plus inhabitants live below the poverty level. Sadus(holy men) walk naked throughout the country, while multimillionaires have chauffers drive them everywhere shutting out the dusty downtrodden world. The contrast between poor and rich is striking.

Shunned , horrified and ignored by the majority of those who encounter them,beggars are human beings, with names, families, hearts, souls, intelligence, dignity, laughter, sadness, religion, their own children, desires, goals, hardships, luck, good days as well as bad days, but especially
bad Karma/luck in this lifetime. They are the invisible element of our world yet they number in the millions. MILLIONS! There are NO WORLD ORGANIZATIONS that specifically aid beggars. These unfortunate beings roam the land seeking handouts. Handouts! Not Care or Unicef or Medecine sans Frontieres etc etc etcThey are independant agents who survive ( barely ) raising their hands hoping a coin lands in their palms.
Many of these individuals willl not survive without altruism. Many do NOT SURVIVE!
I do hope that my photography of these unfortunate beings encourages altruism! giving!

MALAYSIA-THAIPUSAM slide show (37)
THAIPUSAM is an annual Hindu festival which draws the largest gathering in multi-racial Malaysia - nearly a million people. Several hundred devotees spear their cheeks with long, shiny steel rods - often a metre long - and pierce their chests and backs with small, hook-like needles in penance. Tourists watch in awe as metal pierces the skin with hardly any bleeding and, apparently, no pain as the devotee stands in a trance in the dawn light after weeks of rigorous abstinence. Thaipusam remains to be the biggest gathering of people in Malaysia. It is also a real cultural experience and a feast for all your senses.
